Do you want your real estate website to get noticed on the internet? I was told that one of the best ways to bring people to your webpage and increase your ranking in the search engines was to BLOG. But no one could tell me much about blogging? Typical response "Oh, just write about anything".
So, I started writing about "just anything". I put up cute videos. I linked to funny things. I made just about every mistake you could make if you were blogging as a Realtor.
Thankfully, someone I know very well spoke up and gave me some great advice before I completely messed up. "No", she said, "you can't write about just anything".
What? But why not??? I know I'm increasing traffic to my website. I'm getting
And then she asked me "How is it going to help you for people to come to your real estate website because they are searching for cute puppy pictures on the internet?"
Oh....
And then she talked to me about how to blog with a purpose. I wanted people to see my website when they searched for "Realtors or Real Estate Agents in Steamboat Springs" so I needed to blog with that purpose.
I'd like to share a few of these helpful suggestions with my friends in real estate.
KEYWORDS
What are keywords? They are words that are used by search engines to find web pages. They are the words that you want your website to pull up for when they are typed in the search bar.
If you have a real estate site, I would suggest that you might want to include your town as one of your keywords. Other suggestions are "homes for sale", "real estate", "real estate agents", "farms for sale", "commercial properties for sale", etc.
When someone is looking for a Realtor to help them buy or sell property, you want to make sure that you use good keywords on your website so that your website will show up on the first page. The same thing applies to your blog. Don't write a blog that does not include some of your key words.
Turns out, it can actually hurt you to pull up for the wrong key words like "cute pics of dogs". I did figure out how to write a helpful real estate blog that included some of these pictures though. Keeping a clean home with pets.
HOMETOWN
Remember, the town you are selling real estate in is one of your keywords, so write about it. You can talk about some of the history of your town, facts about it, events that are happening, or locations that people should visit if they are in your home town.
If you are lucky enough to live in a great place like Steamboat Springs, there is always something to write about. (Notice how I just threw the name of my hometown into this blog.)
REAL ESTATE TIPS
I mean, it is a real estate blog, so why not write about things that will help your clients? You might want to write a blog with helpful information on how to sell a home or things that a buyer might want to consider before making that big purchase. Maybe it would be helpful just to let them know how a Realtor could help them.
And as a real estate agent, I know I enjoy reading great blogs about real estate. I recently watched a video another Keller Williams Realtor put on her blog about how to make great email flyers. It was very helpful and time saving to me.
YOURSELF
A blog is a great way to let people get to know you. Share some things going on in your life. Make sure you add pictures, they just make the blog so much more interesting. And it's nice for your real estate clients and other Realtors to see more than just your profile picture.
I hope this information was helpful to someone. I'm still learning. I enjoy reading blogs from other real estate agents that have been blogging longer than I have. And I thank you for taking the time to read mine.

Oh...and did I mention that blogging about how to blog as a real estate agent is a great way to throw in keywords and maybe even some links to your other blogs????
